Kiln's Chief Actuary wins lifetime achievement award

Kiln, the international specialist insurance and reinsurance underwriting group, today announced that its Chief Actuary & Risk Officer, Andrew Hitchcox, has won an Outstanding Contribution Award for his work within general insurance research.

The prestigious award was presented following a secret ballot at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries’ 38th General Insurance Research Organisation (GIRO) conference in Liverpool, UK, in front of more than 500 actuaries from around the world.

The award is given once a year to people who have excelled as actuaries and have made significant contributions to learning within their field.

Upon receiving the accolade, a stunned Andrew gave an impromptu acceptance speech thanking the committee, adding: “Winning an award like this is a double-edged sword – I hope this is a sign that I am at the top of the hill and not yet over it!”

Colum D'Auria, Chair of the GIRO Committee of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, who presented Andrew's award, said: "I was delighted to be able to recognise Andrew's achievements in this way. His contribution to General Insurance research has been exemplary. Personally, I have much admired his commitment to knowledge sharing and debate within the profession."

Andrew has been Kiln’s Chief Actuary & Risk Officer since joining the company six years ago and has led an extremely successful career in insurance. A leading industry figure, Andrew has authored countless papers on general insurance, is a member of the ERM Board of the Institute, a chair of the ERM Research Committee, a member of Programme Committee, which oversees the production and refereeing of research papers for the British Actuarial Journal, and previously held a number of senior positions with the General Insurance board of the Institute of Actuaries.
