International Trade & Political Insurance
International trade is the lifeblood of the world economy and has grown exponentially in the last few decades. The growth of new and emerging markets means that this trajectory will, if anything, accelerate in the future.
Our insurance products are designed to protect against the many obvious and not-so-obvious risks to which international traders are exposed throughout the supply chain. Our products are a significant enabler for exports, imports and international projects: without insurance for political risks and trade disruption, much international trade and investment simply would not take place.
Our market-leading underwriters are known for innovative insurance covers specifically designed to facilitate international trade. The team works closely with clients to design new insurance products or offer tailor-made solutions to meet the evolving business needs of today’s international trade. Our focus is on an expanding range of assureds including, but not limited to, banks, traders, ship-owners, charterers, manufacturers, the service industry, the oil industry and both importers and exporters.
We offer a broad range of policy coverage:
- Asset loss: war, terrorism, confiscation, expropriation, deprivation, nationalisation, licence cancellation, embargo and abandonment
- Revenue loss: shipbuilding delayed delivery and cancellation, delay in start up (DSU), charter frustration and cancellation, port blockage, project cargo and delays, vessels loss of revenue and shipbroker commissions
- Performance loss: contract frustration and trade credit, non-payment, non-delivery, pre-shipment default and unfair calling of bonds
- Trade disruption insurance (TDI) for force majeure events, physical events, political events and insolvency
Our maximum line size is USD 60m and our maximum policy period is five years.
Our trade and political underwriters write business in London at Lloyd’s. Continental European and Asian producers can also access our underwriting capability via our service companies located in those regions.
